I trialed and tested a bunch of options to find the best and most quiet garage door openers and it’s fair to say that Chamberlain came out as a top garage door opener brand. The weirdest thing happened though!

Despite picking the Chamberlain B970 Ultra Quiet Garage Door Opener because it was an industry leader – my dad (who’s garage we installed the garage door opener on) had called me to ask why the Chamberlain Garage Door Opener was making a beeping sound – like a warning alarm.

This wasn’t my area of expertise, but as I’d been the one who’d helped him pick out the best garage door opener(at great effort!) I did a little digging and solved the beeping sound from his Chamberlain Garage door opener.

Why the Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Beeps

After a little digging it was clear to see this was to do with the design of the garage door opener – it was making this beeping sound on purpose when in use.

Installed in the Chamberlain Garage Door openers is a backup battery. This makes complete sense, you don’t want to be stuck with the door half open or closed if the power goes down.

But this clever little backup battery isn’t like other batteries and it needs to be charged and discharged (apparently!) to keep it in good condition. The Chamberlain series of door openers are all designed to take care of this.

Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Backup Battery Beeping – What does it mean?

There are a couple reasons Chamberlain door openers start beeping.

Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Beeping – Solution_Get Soundproofing

Reason 1 – Battery Worn Out

Firstly the battery can become worn out and can be continually low on charge despite being fully plugged into the mains.

This is just the battery getting old or worn out – and you can get a Replacement Chamberlain Backup Battery on Amazon

But my dad hadn’t had his Garage Door Opener THAT long, so I thought it MUST be something else.

This was confirmed – as the beeping was accompanied by a RED light.

Typically if the battery is showing signs of being worn out, the beeping is accompanied by an orange light on the main unit (this is model dependent, check your manual).

Here’s that replacement Chamberlain Door Opener Backup Battery I looked at:

Reason 2 – Unplugged / Not Getting Power

Now this one sounds REALLY silly…

And I’m glad to say my dad didn’t drag me out of the city to plug his Garage Door Opener back in!

No, it actually turns out there were some electrical issues with the house and a fuse had blown which meant the unit wasn’t getting power.

As mentioned, the beeping every 30 seconds was accompanied by a red light on the Garage Door Opener.

SOLVED – Chamberlain Battery Backup Beeping

And it was as easy as that. Replaced the fuse, the backup battery charged and the beeping noise went away.

This isn’t one of my typical articles – but as I’d tested and recommended Chamberlain as one of the top brands in the Garage Door Opener market I thought I’d share the benefit of my experience.
